Early college offers students a rigorous and supportive academic program of study that blends high school and college work with the goal that students will graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree or 60 college credit hours toward a baccalaureate degree. It is a chance for students who may not otherwise consider attending college to earn 12 to 60 college hours. This opportunity will be offered free of charge through a partnership between Spring ISD and Lone Star College - North Harris, which will waive tuition and fees.

Eighth-grade students who are currently enrolled in a Spring ISD middle school may apply if they meet eligibility criteria.

  • Academic performance in 7th and 8th grades.
  • Scores on the 7th grade Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.
  • Economically disadvantaged status.
  • First generation college enrollee.
  • Attendance and discipline history.
  • Student and parent interviews.
  • Onsite essay writing.
  • Recommendations from a teacher, principal and/or counselor.

Applications will also be available at informational meetings and middle school offices.

Application Deadline – April 1, 2011

A selection committee, comprised of representatives of Spring ISD and Lone Star College – North Harris, will meet in April and May to interview students and review applications. Final selections will be made by May 20, 2011. Students who are selected will be notified by mail.

Early College High School

The Early College High School will be located on Southridge Rd. on land located behind Bammel Middle School. Portable classrooms already owned by Spring ISD will be moved onto the site for use as the ECHS campus.
