HOUSTON - Feb. 6, 2013 - Three Spring ISD students are winners in the 2013 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards sponsored by Harris County Department of Education. Trang Luu, Westfield High School, received a Gold Key award for a drawing titled “I Have Lost All of My Marbles and Now Have Nothing Left.” Janel Mosqueda, Westfield High School, received a Silver Key award for a drawing titled “Buddies.” Janae' Sumter, Dekaney High School, received a Silver Key award for a drawing titled “Café de Crawfish.” Their art teachers are Todd Stevens, Westfield, and Desmond Rodney, Dekaney.
The Silver Key Award winners are on display at Texas Arts Supply, 2001 Montrose Blvd., and the Gold Key Award winners are showcased at the Glassell Junior School, 5100 Montrose Blvd., through Feb. 13.
A total of 925 Gold Key, Silver Key and honorable mention recipients are being honored throughout the county from approximately 3,500 entries. A total of 253 Gold Key art and writing awardees will advance to represent Harris County in the national competition in New York City. National winners will be announced in March. The winning students and their sponsoring teachers will be invited to the awards ceremony on May 31 at Carnegie Hall.
