Students in Spring ISD will start classes on Wednesday, Aug. 24 in 2011, according to an instructional calendar approved by the Spring ISD Board of Trustees on Jan. 11.
The Spring ISD Advisory Committee on Education is responsible for preparing calendar options each year. The committee, which includes community members, presented two calendar options to Spring ISD staff members and the community in an online survey. Based upon the survey input, option B was recommended to the board for approval.
“The significant differences this year were the start dates and ending dates. Calendar A would wrap up the school year in May and calendar B would end the year in June, much like the calendar that we are following this year,” said Dr. Dalane Bouillion, associate superintendent for curriculum and instructional services.
More than 4,100 community members and staff participated in the survey. Overall, 64.53 percent were in favor of calendar B and 35.47 were in favor of calendar A.
The 2011-12 calendar will allow students a full week off for Thanksgiving, Nov. 21-25, two weeks off for winter break, Dec. 19 to Jan. 2, and one week off for spring break, March 12-16. The last day of school will be June 7.
