Spring High School Parents,
A recent report from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that gang rivalry is a possible motive for the crime that took place at Spring High School Wednesday morning, Sept. 4. We want you to know that the Spring ISD Police Department established a gang suppression unit during the summer that focuses on preventing gang-related activities from occurring on Spring ISD campuses. Among the additional officers assigned to the campus when students return on Monday will be an officer trained to work with the gang suppression unit.
When school resumes on Monday, the safety and emotional wellbeing of students will be our priority. There will be an increased presence by the Spring ISD Police both inside and outside of the campus for as long as needed, and other local law enforcement agencies will also be present on campus and in the community. Additionally, the district team of crisis counselors and community leaders will be at school to assist our students in dealing with this senseless tragedy.
The staff of Spring High School spent Thursday, Sept. 5 debriefing, processing and planning for the return of our students. Several parents took advantage of the information phone line on Thursday, which also will be available to you today, Friday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We encourage you to call the information line at 281-891-7000 if you have questions or concerns.
In an effort to do a better job communicating, we will be calling you throughout the next three days to share additional information as it is available.
