  • High school learners are qualitatively different than younger learners. The American School Counselor Association says that “High school students need guidance in making concrete and compounded decisions. They must navigate academic, peer and parental pressures as they face high-stakes testing, the challenges of college admissions, the scholarship and financial aid application process and entrance into a competitive job market.”

Because of these unique needs, high school counselors must be equipped to deal with the demands of dealing with young adults during a major turning point in their lives.
