HOUSTON – Feb. 12, 2020 – Students at Beneke Elementary School were fully engaged, on-task and politely indifferent to the grownups who visited their classrooms on Feb. 6 as part of a tour to see the district’s Empowered Learning Model in action. “The students are really so engaged in their work, that they can tune out their environment,” said Beneke Principal LaTracy Harris, “and that’s why we really know that we have something special.” Almost 50 educators, including principals from other Spring ISD campuses and representatives from two other school districts, got to see first-hand what the district’s Empowered Learning Model looks like in first and third-grade math classes at Beneke, Ponderosa and Reynolds elementary schools and in grades six through eight at Roberson Middle School.
