  • Explore Italy Summary

TCMS Traveling Warriors Explored Italy over nine days in early June.  Our eleven explorers were teamed with two other schools from Oakland Bay area, CA and Phoenix, AZ., creating opportunities for everyone to be exposed to other lifelong learners while everyone exploring the Italian culture.

All group members arrived in Milan and our luxury bus ride began as we made our first stop in Verona on day one!  The following day began early for our day trip into Venice, where we had a local tour guide on the history and architecture.  Following was a glass blowing demonstration, gondola ride and and plenty of time to explore the many streets of Venice.

Next stop Florence with a tour of the city, museums, as well as a walking food sampling tour of Italian favorites.  We were all thrilled with our morning trip to Pisa and once again everyone had the opportunity to climb the dome, explore the town and of course, sample the food.

Then, the Road to Rome began with the first stop in Assisi for the afternoon.  We were delighted to explore and learn about the cathedral, and basilica of St. Francis.  Once completed, we hiked the hill of Assisi which included window shopping and of course, many opportunities sample the local flavor.

The final destination was Rome with the Coliseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Vatican and Sistine Chapel.  The group was not done yet as all were able to take their tasting skills and actually make and eat gelato and tiramisu.

The trip ended with all the students becoming fast friends and celebrating the last night with their own social gathering in the hotel.  Everyone enjoyed the trip and The Traveling Warriors are beginning plans for the 2020 STEM trip Toronto and NYC!

Please ensure once your child learns how to set up their binder that they take good care of it and keep it in good condition as it will need to last all year long. The purpose of the binder is to help with organization, which is a skill that will begin to prepare our students for college and careers. It is also a form of communication between parents and teachers.

There will be a binder checklist (rubric) from the teacher. The binder will have important information from school or the classroom, homework, graded projects, planners (provided by the school), etc. It will also need a zipper pocket where you can also include notes, lunch money, etc. This binder must go home each night and return to school each morning. Please discuss the importance of of your child being responsible to take care of the binder and taking it to and from school.
