    The mission of the Guidance and Counseling Department is help schools implement an effective data-driven, student-focused, and results-oriented comprehensive school counseling program to prepare students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens who display good character – ready to contribute, compete and lead in today’s global society.

    Program Goals

    •  To support the district’s five year strategic plan Every Child 2020.
    •  To increase student engagement and achievement.
    •  To counsel students to fully develop their academic, career, personal and social abilities.

    The Role of the School Counselor

    The primary responsibility of a School Counselor is to utilize leadership, advocacy and collaboration to promote student success. The School Counselor is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive developmental guidance program as outlined in the Texas Comprehensive, Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) models, to develop each student’s academic, career, personal and social abilities. The four major program components are Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning, Responsive Services and System Support.
