Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Rubi Bothwell

It is a wonderful pleasure to be back at Smith Elementary, not as a parent this time, but as your assistant principal!

I will be starting my 21st year in education, 7th year as an assistant principal. I have served in various educational roles which encompass elementary and secondary levels, bilingual teacher 2nd and 3rd grades, and many years as a coordinator at the district level for multilingual departments in two different districts. I have collaborated with various district and campus leadership teams, participated in curriculum writing, and presented professional development to PK - 12th grade teachers. Like Mrs. Phillips, I have also had the opportunity to work with the Texas Education Agency on various reading and writing initiatives for student growth and success.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of Houston, Go Coogs! My Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership is from Sam Houston State University.
My husband Brett is also in education. I also have three children. Cristian is a graduate from Blinn Community College. Cibeles is a senior at Grand Oaks High School and Ceres is a 10th grader. We absolutely love going on the Frio and tubing Texas rivers. We love camping and board games. They are my rock and my reason for all that I do.
I have no doubt that as a team, parents-students-Smith staff, we will have a fantastic school year, as we all have the same goal: safe and successful Smith Scholars!
