Z Pass+
Spring ISD is reintroducing the scanner system Z Pass+ on all of its buses for the 2022-23 school year that will give added peace of mind to parents by allowing them to know when and where their student gets on and off the bus.
Students carry a small card that automatically logs their entry or exit when they pass the scanner on the school bus. The information is then instantly and securely available to parents. Notifications can also be sent directly to their computer or cell phone via text message.
In addition, these cards will have a dual purpose to allow students to scan at the Point of Sale in the cafeteria lines, adding convenience and efficiency for both parents and child nutrition workers.

MyView
Zonar MyView is an easy-to-use mobile app that allows parents to check on the school bus anytime. Key features include:
- View a real-time, map-based bus locator
- Guarantee parent and student information privacy
- Create custom zones for each stop and facility
- Send email alerts and SMS messages
- Available on smartphones and tablets
Set up Zonar MyView:
- Download the Zonar MyView app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Enter the School Access Code 77090.
- Enter your child’s unique student ID.
- Create alert zones around drop-off and pick-up points.
When your child’s bus enters an alert zone, you will receive notification by email or text.

Are there any privacy concerns related to the GPS tracking of students and buses?
The technology being used with the new tracking system is not unlike the GPS that is used by family members who share the location of their phones with one another. Parents will only have access to their student’s information. Under our terms with the company providing this technology, all student information is protected.

How does Z Pass work?
Every card distributed to students is programmed specifically for that child. When the student gets on the bus, they will swipe their card, which will enter their unique number into the system. By downloading the MyView App and entering their child’s unique number, parents will be able to track when the bus approaches their neighborhood. As students exit the vehicle, they will swipe their card again to show they have arrived at their campus or bus stop.

If I’m a parent without a Smartphone, can I still track my student?
Yes. We are creating a web-based portal that will allow parents to use a computer to track their student and receive notifications.

What happens if my student forgets or loses their ZPass?
Should your child lose or misplace their card, they will still be able to ride the bus. The driver will manually look up the student when they board the bus and will do the same when the student exits. This process will be used only until the student receives a new card. Parents/guardians will be responsible for paying a $3 card replacement fee.

How will my student receive their ZPass?
Each campus will distribute the cards to students during orientation or the beginning weeks of school.

My student isn’t eligible to ride the bus so why are they getting a card?
All students will be issued a card because they will also be used at the point of sale in the school cafeteria. Students will be able to scan a special barcode which means they no longer have to input their student ID at the checkout. This will speed up the lunchline, so students have more time to enjoy their meal. In addition, students will need their card to ride the bus for field trips or athletic events.

Are any other districts in the area using this technology?
Yes. Cy-Fair ISD, Conroe ISD, Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD all use ZPass. Spring ISD consulted with these other districts to learn about their experiences prior to making the decision to use it here.
