Springwoods Village MS
Springwoods Village Middle School, which first opened its doors in 2019, is a proud International Baccalaureate (IB) World School serving students in grades 6-8. Following an extensive application and review process conducted by the International Baccalaureate Organization, Springwoods Village was named the district’s first-ever authorized IB World School in 2021.
Staff at Springwoods Village like to say, “IB is not what we teach, but how we teach.” The International Baccalaureate framework represents a culture and an approach that encourages conceptual learning through inquiry, action and reflection. Working with the school’s dedicated teachers and staff, students learn skills needed for success well beyond their middle school and high school years – skills that prepare them to take their place in a global society.
At Springwoods Village, this approach is at the heart of building a culture of excellence and empowering all students to grow and thrive. The school takes its mission seriously – to create lifelong learners through inquiry and reflection, who develop intellectually, emotionally, and socially in order to be productive and compassionate global citizens.
The school-wide IB Middle Years Program (MYP) is available through the School Choice application and lottery process for prospective sixth grade students beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. Springwoods Village will also continue to welcome its zoned middle school students, who are not required to complete an application through the School Choice process in order to enroll at the campus.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is IB?
IB programmes aim to provide an education that enables students to make sense of the complexities of the world around them, as well as equipping them with the skills and dispositions needed for taking responsible action for the future. They provide an education that crosses disciplinary, cultural, national and geographical boundaries, and that champions critical engagement, stimulating ideas and meaningful relationships. Why IB?
IB is not what we teach, but how we teach. We teach students conceptually through inquiry, encouraging international mindedness, action and reflection. Learning coaches intentionally teach specific soft skills learners need for a global society. Students are taught to “learn how to learn” and make conceptual connections not just across contents, but across the globe. We are preparing students for jobs that are not currently in existence through intentionally teaching students Approaches to Learning Skills. These skills are in alignment with what the World Economic Forum lists as the top 10 skills of tomorrow.
