Mrs. De'Monica Amerson
Dear Parents and Scholars,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Thompson Elementary School! I hope you enjoyed your time with family and friends. I am very excited to join the Thompson “Pack” and I look forward to many years of success with your scholars.
We are excited about the return of our scholars and we have been working hard to make sure this upcoming year is exciting and rewarding. Our theme this year will be “Going from Good to GREAT” We want our parents, scholars, faculty and staff to work collaboratively to improve the academic, social, and emotional well-being of each member of our school community. We met and exceeded our academic goal of 80% this past school year in reading and math and now it’s time for GREATER!
Here at Thompson, we have established core beliefs and a common language that will support our vision that states; “Thompson Elementary is committed to the development of the whole child through combined community efforts in teaching positive values through academics and positive social experiences”
Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Doors open daily beginning at 7:30am. Please ensure that your child does not arrive before 7:30am. Breakfast will be served from 7:30am to 7:55am in the classroom and will continue to be free for all scholars this school year. It is very important for all parents and guardians to complete a free/reduced lunch application again this year. The state requires that every household reapplies.
As a reminder all bus riders will be dropped off and picked up at the front of the building with ample staff present to assist. Walkers and car riders will enter and exit through the car rider line on the side of the building daily. We have a strong a car rider system in place that will monitor the safety of each of our scholars.
Please plan to attend our annual Pack is Back on Tuesday, August 14th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Scholars will receive their class/teacher assignments and parents will be able to pick up pre-ordered supplies, purchase spirit shirts, and meet your child’s teacher. Additionally, pertinent information regarding the school year will also be available.
Our student dress code has changed slightly from last school year. Scholars will wear specific colored polos by grade level with khaki or blue jean bottoms. Please see the standardized dress code in the student handbook or online for more detailed information.
Scholars may only carry a backpack of choice without wheels during the school day. Also, scholars will be issued a photo identification badge free of charge. Should a badge become damaged or lost, scholars/parents will be expected to purchase a replacement badge in the building office for $5.00. Scholars will be expected to wear these daily and they must be visible from the front of their bodies. All IDs will remain on campus with the homeroom teacher and reissued each morning.
On behalf of Thompson Elementary School faculty and staff, welcome to a new school year! We are excited about the positive plans we have in store this year as we Journey from Good to GREAT!
