Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Why didn't I receive a retention supplement?

A: Only full and half-time employees whose start dates were before June 30, 2018 are eligible. Specifically, an employee must have been employed as of the last day of his or her contract (or duty year for non-contract employees) for the 2017-2018 school year and be active in the payroll as an employee eligible for benefits, as of September 1, 2018 and remain employed with SISD through processing of the November 23, 2018 payroll.

Q: I am out on approved leave that is either paid or unpaid. Will I still receive the supplement?

A: Yes. Employees who meet the eligibility requirements will not become ineligible due to being out on leave, regardless of whether that leave is paid or unpaid.

    Q: Are half-time employees eligible?

A: Yes. An employee who is employed as a .5 FTE or less will receive ½ (one half) of the supplement.  Any employee who is employed as greater than .5 FTE will receive the full supplement.  If an employee changes FTE from the 2017-2018 to the 2018-2019 school year, the employee's supplement will be based on his or her status as of September 1, 2018.

Q: Are substitute teachers and temporary employees eligible if they began working for the district before June 30, 2018?

A: No. Employees who are not eligible for benefits (i.e. substitutes, temporary employees, etc.) as of September 1, 2018, are not eligible to receive the retention supplement regardless of the employee's status at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

Q: Will this retention supplement count toward my TRS compensation?

A; No. The retention supplement is not TRS eligible compensation.  Social Security, Medicare, Federal Income Tax, and any other mandated deductions will be withheld.

Q: If I resign will I be eligible for the retention supplement?

A: It depends on your resignation date. There is no proration of the supplement if an employee resigns, retires, or otherwise leaves SISD prior to September 1, 2018, or prior to processing of the November 23, 2018 payroll.

Q: Are USTAR participants eligible for the supplement?

A: Employees who worked at SISD in 2017-2018 as part of the USTAR partnership and are hired as a full-time teacher in SISD for 2018-2019 with a start date on or before September 1, 2018 and remain employed through processing of the November 23, 2018 payroll are eligible for the full amount of the one-time retention supplement.

Q: Is the retention supplement a one-time payment?

A: Yes. Employees have no property right in the continuation of any payment provided as a result of the board resolution.
