Mr. Jermaine Zanders
Principal for the 2021-2022 school year. This is my fifteenth year as a public school educator,
and my second year as an administrator in Spring ISD. I am a native of New Orleans, LA where
I began my teaching career as a high school English teacher, the year after Hurricane Katrina
devastated the city and areas of the Gulf Coast region. In my thirteen years as a classroom
teacher, I taught ELA grades 5 – 12 in both traditional and charter schools in LA, and here in
Texas.
My genuine philosophy of education is that neither zip code, area code, address, nor any
arbitrary category determines whether or not a child can learn, because every child can learn and
excel in his/her own ways. Because of my own upbringing I am a strong advocate of promoting
literacy, especially among underserved populations.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Dillard University, Master of Divinity from Emory
University, Master in the Art of Teaching from Xavier University of LA, and an Education
Specialist degree in leadership from Liberty University. I recently contributed several written
pieces to the book, “Hey Man! We’re Just Talking” a series of open letters to young men of
color to help them navigate different areas of life. I am also currently writing my own memoir
detailing my journey with kidney disease and dialysis over the last two decades.
In my spare time I enjoy singing with my church choir, spending time with my spouse, reading,
writing, and cooking authentic New Orleans and southern cuisine.
I am excited to join the team and guide our 7 th grade Eagles as they soar to new heights!
