Mr. LaFredrick D. Smith Jr.- Principal

I am elated to introduce myself to the Ponderosa Pony Family as the newly named Principal. I am overwhelmed with joy to serve our scholars, while working alongside other leaders and educators to continue to elevate and execute their educational needs. I am committed to ensuring that while in our care, your child will always know that they are valued, loved, and created with a purpose.

Education is my passion! I have demonstrated this passion throughout my career by serving in the positions of elementary teacher, instructional specialist, assistant principal, and principal resident. I am known for having a great balance of building a positive culture while also holding others accountable to high expectations. You will often hear me state, "this is more than my career, this is my ministry."

I have had the honor to be awarded and recognized as the Rookie Teacher of the Year (2015), Parents Choice Teacher of the Year (2016), Who’s Who in Black Houston – Educators - Real Time Media (2016), Prairie Vie Jr.w A&M University 40 under Forty Alumni (2017), the Apple Educators Appreciation Award (2017), Houston's Top Teachers - Local Houston Magazine (2018) and Local Spotlight - Vogue Magazine (2019).

I am member of the Brazos Valley Alliance of Black School Educators, the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Teacher & Quality Retention Program. I am also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the Eta Rho Sigma Chapter.

I received my bachelor's degree in sociology from Prairie View A&M University, my master's degree in curriculum & instruction from Houston Baptist University, and my principal certification from Lamar University.

I am looking forward to partnering with you as we ensure all CHAMPIONS receive high quality instruction in a positive learning environment that will prepare them to succeed.

Ms. Natalie Johnson - Assistant Principal

My name is Ms. Johnson and I’m excited to join the Ponderosa Family as your Assistant Principal. I recently completed my 11th year in education in Spring ISD. As a Spring ISD graduate, I am elated to work with the students, families, and community members in a district that ignited my "why" for education.

I’m looking forward to the work we have ahead and I’m confident that we will accomplish great things this school year. As a servant leader, I am not only here to serve you, but to also grow you. The grass is greener where you water it. #ChampionsRiseUp
