Candace Gilliam, 7th Grade Assistant Principal

Greetings Bailey Buccaneers!  It is my sincere honor to serve as the 7th Grade Assistant Principal for the 2019-20 school year.  I have been involved in K-12 Education for 15 years, and have served in various capacities including teacher, teacher developer, parent engagement liaison, and campus testing coordinator.  I received my Bachelor of Science in Community Health at Sam Houston State University, and my Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Houston-Downtown.

There is an old proverb that states, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”  My purpose is to show people how to fish. I want to be an effective leader, and equip those that I serve with tools that will allow them to be able to build the capacity to be successful. In doing so, I am committed to being a part of the “LIFT”ing to shift from teaching the lesson to educating the student, from teaching classes to teaching individuals. In order for that to take place, our school must build a collaborative community of stakeholders who wholeheartedly believe that they play a part in the evolution of educating students.

I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated staff, families, and administrative team to help provide the best educational experience for our students.  I count it a joy to be a part of the Buccaneer Family!

Brian Wilson, 8th Grade Assistant Principal

Mr. Wilson is a third generation educator that grew up in Memphis, TN and graduated from Whitehaven High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Southern University at Baton Rouge in Psychology and his Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from the University of Memphis in 2011. His career began at Wooddale Middle School in Memphis, TN, where he began as a Special Education Assistant before moving on to teach 6th and 7th grade History, and eventually becoming Department Chair and Team Lead.

Before becoming an assistant principal, he earned accolades for his classroom achievements through two Teacher of the Year recognitions in both Tennessee and Texas.  Mr. Wilson attributes all of his classroom successes to the person that taught him how to teach, his wife Daphne Wilson.  Mr. Wilson’s educational journey led him to become a Teacher Development Specialist for the District prior to joining the Bailey Middle School in 2018.

Mr. Wilson’s educational philosophy can be aptly summed up in a quote from Tupac Shakur who once stated, “I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world and that’s our job to spark someone else watching us”.
