Apply to Join EMERGE HOUSTON - Feb. 4, 2019 - Current Spring ISD sophomores interested in a rigorous program to help high-performing students from underserved communities achieve their college goals are invited to learn more about becoming a Spring ISD EMERGE Fellow by attending an upcoming information session at their campus.

The schedule of campus information sessions is as follows:

  • Carl Wunsche Sr. High School: Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m.
  • Spring Early College Academy: Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m.
  • Westfield High School: Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m.

  • Dekaney High School: Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m.

The EMERGE Fellowship program – introduced to the district last year following approval by the Spring ISD Board of Trustees – is selective, and successful candidates are typically strong academically (as indicated by GPA, PSAT scores and transcript history) as well as being from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. EMERGE students – many of whom are the first in their families to go to college -- have typically shown leadership potential both in their classrooms and in their extracurricular commitments and activities.

Interested students are encouraged to attend the campus information sessions. In addition, students can access and complete the online application, available at tinyurl.com/EMERGEApp2019.

Applications for the new cohort will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18.

Following the application and interview process, those selected will participate in the program throughout their junior and senior years in Spring ISD, gaining access to specialized college counseling, free SAT classes, summer college trips, and a network of support to help them achieve their educational goals.

The program kicked off in spring 2018, when Spring ISD became the third area district to partner with the nonprofit EMERGE Fellowship, which also works with students in both the Houston and Spring Branch independent school districts, preparing them to attend and graduate from selective colleges and universities in Texas and across the country.
