Middle Schools and Early College to Host Free Immunization Clinics April 26
HOUSTON - April 10, 2019 - Spring ISD is partnering with CareDox's Healthy Schools Program to provide free immunizations to sixth- and seventh-grade students and Spring Early College Academy students who need their shots brought up-to-date to be compliant with state immunization requirements.
On Friday, April 26 Healthy Schools clinics will be on site at every Spring ISD middle school to administer free Tdap boosters and meningococcal (MCV4) vaccinations and at Spring Early College Academy to administer free MCV4 vaccinations to students whose parents have filled out and returned consent forms to school with their child. Spring Early College Academy students, who will all be attending Lone Star College-North Harris next school year, are required to have their MCV4 vaccinations up-to-date.
“State law requires students to receive a Tdap booster and meningococcal vaccine before 7th grade and students attending college need to receive their MCV4 as well,” said Spring ISD Director of Nursing and Health Services Jeanne Parker. “We’re pleased to be able to provide this convenient opportunity for parents to get their children the immunizations they need before they start school next year.”
The Tdap protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough) and meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine protects against meningitis.
To participate, parents must fill out the consent form, including their health insurance information, and return it to the school by April 12, 2019. Consent forms are being sent home with students, and are also available online at www.springisd.org/healthservices.
