Employees Recognized for ‘Service Excellence’ at First Central Support Staff Meetings of 2019-20

HOUSTON – Sept. 4, 2019 – During the first Central Support Staff meetings of the 2019-20 school year, Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney E. Watson discussed the district’s new Service Excellence campaign, aimed at promoting standards such as safety, courteousness, responsiveness and efficiency.

“It’s how we treat each other,” Watson told attendees, “but, more importantly, how we treat our customers, and how we view them.”

During the meetings, Watson recognized the contributions of individual staff members whose work exemplifies the Service Excellence mentality.

  • Brian Broussard, Procurement, was honored for his commitment to outstanding customer service in his role as Contract Specialist. Watson thanked Broussard for his positive attitude and commitment to efficient service, together with his knack for genuinely connecting with those he serves to better understand their needs.

  • Thelma Jean Moreno, Building Operations, was recognized for her dedicated service to the Building Operations Department. In particular, Moreno was commended for stepping up to handle front-office and administrative duties on behalf of several departments, including a team of operations employees spanning the district.

  • Maria Reyna, Building Operations, was praised for the work she had accomplished since joining the team at Burchett Elementary School as their campus custodian. Burchett administrators praised Reyna for taking particular pride in her work at the school and for helping get the new year off to a great start.

  • Cynthia Cruz, Child Nutrition purchasing clerk, was recognized for streamlining the food ordering process for cafeteria managers throughout the district. Watson said Cruz’s efforts helped cafeteria staff have more time to focus on students.

  • Alex Bustamante, Child Nutrition, was praised for his work tending to the many technical needs of the Child Nutrition Department, including repair and maintenance of cash registers, computers, cameras and menu boards across the district. Bustamante’s teammates said they appreciate his willingness to step in wherever needed to help keep things running smoothly.

  • Brenda Harper, Safety and Risk Management, was recognized for her extraordinary dedication to her department and for going above and beyond the call of duty to meet critical back-to-school deadlines in a timely manner.

  • Kevin Holiday, Curriculum and Instruction, received recognition for his work as an instructional technology specialist, ensuring that teachers and classrooms had all the resources they needed in place for the start of the new school year. Watson praised Holiday for his committed coaching and service supporting Spring ISD teachers.

In addition to the employee recognitions and Service Excellence presentation, other topics included strategic priorities, such as the district’s Lift 6 middle school transformation initiative, a recently launched project aimed at improving and revitalizing Spring ISD’s six comprehensive middle school campuses. Employees were also briefed on the recent release of state accountability ratings, the growing impact of charter schools in the region, and improved communication tools to help parents support their students for academic success.
