GT

WESTFIELD, TX – On the evening of March 26, the halls of Westfield High School were transformed into a hub of creativity and intellectual curiosity for the annual Gifted & Talented (GT) Expo. Meyer Elementary was out in full force, showcasing the deep research and brilliant minds of our young scholars.

Young Minds, Big Ideas

Our students presented projects that blended scientific inquiry with real-world application. The exhibition floor featured several Meyer standouts:

  • Linguistics & Accessibility: Mateo Luna captivated visitors with his exploration of the Braille Alphabet, using physical models to demonstrate how the system translates to touch.

  • Health & Wellness: David Luna provided a deep dive into Sports Nutrition, using a 3D food pyramid to explain the complex fuel needs of the human body.

  • Conservation & Science: From Rain Baptiste’s "How to Save Water and Land Animals" to interactive stations on Dental Anatomy and the physics of "Can You Blow a Bubble?", the variety of talent was on full display.

A Foundation of Support and Leadership

The success of our students is a direct result of the dedicated mentorship they receive. We were honored to have Meyer GT Specialist Michelle Hatchett on-site, providing expert guidance and cheering on her students as they presented their hard work. Joining her was District GT Specialist Samuel Castilow, whose support at the district level continues to pave the way for these advanced learning opportunities.

The evening also featured a visit from District Board Member Winford Adams, who spent time engaging with our scholars about their findings.

A Connection to Our Roots

In a truly special moment, we were joined by the Meyer Sisters—descendants of Otto and Avalt Meyer, for whom our school is named. Seeing the sisters interact with the "next generation" of Meyer scholars served as a beautiful reminder of our school's legacy and the bright future these students are building. The GT Expo is more than a presentation; it is a testament to the research, grit, and public speaking skills our scholars develop every day.

The Meyer Way

Congratulations to all our participants! You represented Meyer Elementary with excellence, passion, and pride. We look forward to seeing where your curiosity takes you next.
